An introduction: My name is Katerina and I have been an equestrian for almost nine years. I have had a love for horses ever since I was about four years old. I was one of those girls where the "pony phase" or the classic whining of a young girl about wanting her own horse never went away. I did not actually start horseback riding until I was older, no one in my family really rode, or knew anything about horses, so I did other things growing up, such as dance. It wasn't until I was about 18, that I discovered the amazing sport of horseback riding and wanted to commit to it. It has been quite the journey, I have learned so much about myself during these 9 years of being in this sport. I have learned discipline, I have learned trust. I have also learned that staying at one place because of a horse you love, that is not yours, may not always be the best reason to stay. Sometimes, as hard as it, and as heartbreaking, you have to find the courage to move on and try riding elsewhere, as I have now.
During the course of this semester, my outlook on life has changed, in the sense that I have truly started figuring out who I am, and what I want in life. Needless to say, its been an intense four months. |
